The state's oldest American Legion post relocated Wednesday from downtown Little Rock -- its home for nearly 50 years -- to a smaller, more cost-efficient building in North Little Rock, a move that saved the post from permanently closing its doors. On Wednesday morning, five members of M.M. Eberts Post 1 hefted desks, chairs, printers, and other supplies out of the brick building at 315 E. Capitol Ave. and filled a 14-foot moving truck. ARKANSAS A TO Z: Started by pioneer families, town of Amity endures | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
4+ mon, 1+ week ago (283+ words) The community of Amity in Clark County traces its beginnings to the arrival of a group of pioneer families, under the leadership of Deacon William F. Browning, Clark County surveyor (18461850, 18521854), who settled along the old Caddo Cove Road just north of the Caddo River late in 1847. It soon became the center of an expanding community. According to Laura Scott, an early Clark County historian, Browning named his settlement "Amity" because he hoped to find in it "peace and brotherhood." In August 1848, Browning and a group of local citizens formed what would become Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, the first religious organization in the area.
